1.5 quart / 1.42 liter Tea Ball Tea Pot Use & Care
Important: Read all instructions before using your new tea pot. Save these instructions.
Important Warnings & instructions
Teakettle handle and whistle will get hot. ALWAYS USE POT HOLDERS OR OVEN MITTS WHEN HANDLING TEA POT OR REMOVING WHISTLE to prevent possible burn injury.
Do not overfill the tea pot. Overfilling the tea pot can cause boiling water to be forced out of the spout. You could be burned. The water level should never touch the rim of the spout.
After the water boils, turn off the heat and allow the tea pot to stand for 15 seconds before removing the whistle (using an oven mitt) and then pouring the water.
Never let water in the tea pot boil dry. Leaving a dry tea pot on a hot burner can melt the aluminum base and damage the tea pot and burner and be a possible source of fire.
DO NOT LEAVE A HEATING TEA POT UNATTENDED. Forgotten tea pots boil dry. DO NOT RELY ON THE WHISTLE to remind you about an unattended tea pot.
If water has been boiled dry from the tea pot and the bottom disc has melted, TURN OFF HEAT and do not remove tea pot until it has cooled. Do not reuse a tea pot that has boiled dry and the aluminum has melted. Use an Oven Mitt when Pot is Hot!
Useful Hints
Before first use, wash the inside and outside with hot soapy water, rinse and repeat. This will ensure that any oil residue left from manufacturing is completely removed.
Do not allow gas flames to come up the side of the tea pot.
Water must come to a boil for tea pot to whistle.
Do not heat tea pot empty or add cold water to a hot tea pot (let tea pot cool at room temperature before re-filling). Adding cold water to a hot tea pot can cause blue/brown heat discoloration to appear.
Tap water may cause mineral build-up or spots on the inside of your tea pot and may cause the whistle to stop working. Use filtered water to prevent mineral buildup and to extend the life of your tea pot. If you notice mineral deposits in the inside of your tea pot, remove them by regularly boiling a solution 1 quart of water with 1/4 cup of vinegar for 10-15 minutes. Rinse.
-
To keep your tea pot spot-free, rinse in hot water and hand dry. You may want to occasionally clean your tea pot with Chantal Enamel/Ceramic Cleaner. Note: Everyday use may result in minor scratching, but this will not affect performance. DO NOT use steel wool, scouring pads, oven cleaners, bleach or strong abrasive cleaners.
When storing your tea pot for a period of time, keep the lid and whistle cap off to dry out the interior only when it's cool to avoid the dangers of hot handles, hot water and steam.
Frequently Asked Question:
What if my tea pot doesn't whistle?
If your tea pot doesn't whistle, use the checklist below. Make adjustments to your tea pot only when it is cool to avoid the dangers of hot handles, hot water and steam.
The water must come to a boil for the tea pot to whistle.
Do not push on the reeds inside the whistle cap.
Make sure your whistle is free of mineral deposits by boiling a solution of 1 quart water and 1/4 cup vinegar in your pot for 10 to 15 minutes.
Push down on the lid to make sure it's on tight. Also, make sure the gasket is in place. The gasket is the black rubber o-ring on the lid rim.
Check for condensation. As the tea pot heats up and steam is pushed through the whistle, condensation will occasionally form on the whistle reeds. This could cause the whistle not to sound. Simply turn off the burner and let the tea pot stand for 15 seconds. Pull the whistle off the tea pot (use a potholder to avoid burning your hand) and put it under cool running water. Once the whistle is cool enough to touch, blow thru the whistle to remove the water. If it sounds, then replace it on the tea pot and it should whistle.
